"I have been meaning to write a Half Double Crochet (hdc) beanie pattern for some time now. You all seem to really like my Basic Beanie pattern which uses double crochet stitches so I thought you'd also like a hdc beanie pattern. I used the exact same worsted weight yarn (all hats were made from the same skein) for my samples because I wanted my measurements to be as accurate and consistent as possible. "In this tutorial, I'll be teaching you the braid stitch. You have the option of using one or two colors. Warning, if are using two colors, your secondary color may show through, I personally like that. The materials that will be using today are a 5 mm crochet hook and Caron Simply Soft which is a worsted weight yarn one in the color Iceland blue and bone. I chose Caron Simply Soft because it works perfectly with this stitch. All #4 worsted weight yarns are not the same. The stitches lay flatter with a light worsted weight yarn. It's made with Red Heart's With Love, so it's soft and squishy, plus with one skein, you can make multiple hats. As far as snowy scenes go, I think this set would look great with aqua, blue or gray as the main color, or any color combo really! I was able to make the adult small size in about an hour and a half. Also, the ribbing and the super bulky yarn of this pattern means that it fits all sizes. I know some people don't really believe that “one size fits all”, and with clothing, I would agree. But this beanie has so much stretch when you need it to be larger, AND it shrinks back down when you need it to be smaller, so it really does fit anyone.
