Chirp the Chick

Nothing signals the beginning of spring like sweet new baby animals. They are so cute, and make the most darling little noises. This little chick is a little shy, so you'll have to listen to him closely to hear him chirp. He's a little softie once he warms up to you though, and is the perfect size for sitting in the crook of your arm as you make him some other little crochet friends for him to play with!

From the Blogger: "This pattern by Vanessa Mooncie originally appeared in the book Animal Heads: Trophy Heads to Crochetand is shared with permission from GMC Publications. The direction of the zebra’s stripes is determined by the shaping of the head, crocheted in rounds and short rows. The mane is made by attaching tassels to the stitches and brushing through the yarn to tangle the fibers and help it stand on end."

Briggs The Bear

The pattern is written in U.S. crochet terms, complete with clear instructions and pictures to help you along the way. Briggs The Bear is crocheted in continuous spirals without joining the rounds. I suggest using a stitch marker or different color yarn to keep track of each round. Briggs The Bear is crocheted in worsted weight yarn and is approximately 5 inches tall. Be aware that the final size may vary depending on the yarn and hook size used. Gauge is not particularly important, just be consistent with the tension you are using. And most importantly, have fun!

Candy Corn Bear

Candy corn seems to be a seriously polarizing candy! Some of my friends love it while most of my family members can't stand it. Whether you love or hate candy corn, the confection is still a quintessential Halloween treat. I'm somewhat partial to candy corn in small quantities. I was inspired by these sugary morsels to create a tiny crocheted bear (with 0 grams of sugar and 0 calories!). You can make your own little bear with this crochet pattern and tutorial. This pattern is worked in an oval. You will be crocheting around both sides of the starting chain. The finished bear is about 1.75 x 1.5 inches. It works up super quickly with only a small amount of yarn. You can use it as a decoration by your candy bowl or make a bunch to give as Halloween party treats.
