Omna Shawl

Cosy, squishy and huge, this free pattern for a crochet shawl makes a lovely crochet blanket scarf to add style to your winter outfits. Wear it as a wrap around your shoulders, or as a cosy scarf to drape around your neck to keep those cold winds at bay. Measurements: 70in (178cm) length x 18in (46cm) wide - without fringing The pattern is an easy design. The first few rows require concentration, but I have included step by step photos to help the process. I used 2 balls of King Cole Curiosity yarn to make my shawl, but any DK weight yarn would work as well. Gradient cake yarns makes a gorgeous wrap, and only a few threads to weave in! I included the multiples for the pattern, so you can make your shawl any width you choose.

Crochet Spiked Triangle Shawl

This crochet spiked triangle shawl is an easy first shawl to make. This crochet pattern also comes with a video tutorial for those that prefer learning visually. The spikes on the ends add a soft flair to the comfy scarf. You could wear this around your neck like a bandanna scarf or even as a shawlette. This worked up rather quickly. Need a quick gift for someone or want to make one for yourself to wear? Do you have a few skeins of Red Heart Unforgettable yarn in your stash? I happened to see this beautiful yarn in the store a few weeks ago and I added some to my stash. This shawl took two full skeins for the shawl itself and about a quarter of the third skein for the spiked fringe. If you can complete a single crochet and a slip stitch, you can add the spiked fringe to the edge of the shawl. I think it adds such a fun spark to this crochet project. And you can wash the shawl without the fringe coming out.

Heartland Crochet Triangle Shawl

This heartland Crochet triangle shawl is an easy crochet pattern to work. It is made using one skein of fine yarn, which means only two ends to weave in. How to Crochet the Granny Stitch The granny stitch is easy to achieve and is often the first type of stitch that a new beginner at crochet learns. It is made up of a combination of double crochet and chain stitches. When working the granny stitch, it is often worked in clusters of 3 double crochet stitches, followed by a chain stitch. Because of the repetitive nature of this stitch, it makes it perfect for a beginner at crochet.

Power of a Prayer Shawl

Prayer Shawl We all have friends in need. Sometimes the friend just needs a hug or an encouraging chat over a cup of coffee. Most of us benefit from a reprieve from the daily grind and having a friend to laugh with can go a long way. But sometimes a friend needs more - when that friend is walking through a dark, sad, or scary time; what many of us call “the valley.” Obviously, the person experiencing a trial is the one with the difficulty - but sometimes knowing how to be a good friend can be hard too. We don't always know what to say. We don't want to be trite, or too serious. We want to be there, but not over-bearing. Some of us also have a tendency to shirk away from very emotional situations. A tangible gift has a powerful impact and offering something personal can help with healing. I love giving a prayer shawl that represents everything I wish, hope, and pray for that individual in the midst of trouble. And not merely a shawl you would find in a store or in a pattern book, but a personalized crocheted fabric that wraps a friend in symbolism. The symbols you choose will depend on your beliefs and the beliefs of the person receiving the shawl. The purpose isn't religious proselytizing; it's blessing someone going through a hard time.

Tuscan Moon Shawl

This pattern is available for free. The Tuscan Moon Shawl is a pretty and quick shawl that echoes the stitch pattern of the Tuscan Sun Wrap but in a whole new shape and yarn! Shortly after debuting the Tuscan Sun Wrap, I got a reader request - a triangle shawl version! I knew the stitch pattern would present a challenge, but after lots of math and experimentation, I'd like to think I got it right. The Wrap was made with Red Heart An Italian Story Ombra, a lovely color shifting yarn with some wool in it. So for the Tuscan Moon Shawl, I wanted to highlight another great yarn that would work for either pattern, but has no wool in it - and Colorscape was the perfect choice!

Wasilla Poncho for Women

My oldest daughter has been asking me to make her a simple crochet poncho for a while now. And recently, while crocheting a couple of my newest patterns, the Centaur Mandala Afghan and Chimera Scarf, I realized that a combination of the simple crochet stitches I was using would be perfect for a poncho. This is how the Wasilla Poncho came to be! Ponchos are great to wear for seasonal transition pieces. They're also great for late night bonfires when the air gets chilly. Dress them up, dress them down. You really can't go wrong with a poncho!
