My second Christmas graph is an Elf. Did you know that Elves became linked with Santa Claus in the 1823 poem known today as "The Night Before Christmas"? In that poem, Santa Claus is referred to as a "jolly old elf". Today, we think of elves like they are depicted in the movie Elf (one of our family's favorites!); working hard in the North Pole making toys for children. These squares are the perfect size for baby loveys, pillow covers, one square of a larger blanket, one side of a tote bag, or as wall art.

This free crochet hooded baby afghan pattern will give your favorite child the chance to feel like a cozy little panda. The blanket is created first and then hood is added after, requiring only one simple seam at the top of the hood. The size and weight of this hooded afghan makes it great for kids approximately 1.5-5 years old. You can customize the pattern to make a crochet koala or a cute polar bear too!

My very first afghan square design! I needed to design a 12" afghan square for a collaboration with another designer, but for the life of me I couldn't come up with a design. Then it hit me! Cables, I need to design a cabled afghan square to stay true to myself. That's when the Cabled Blooms afghan square was born. I love the solid version, but admit that the multi-colored version is great as well. The design includes a couple plains rounds of single crochet at the end that you can omit if you'd like.

Hi everyone! It's an every year contribution I've been doing, to come up with a granny square that has the face of the current year's Chinese zodiac animal. So far I've made the chicken, the dog, the rat, and now the ox. And I've also enjoyed making other animal granny squares, such as the cat and the frog, and have a few in the making (a rabbit and other animals) that I'm going to post in the future. The only hard part for me when designing these granny squares is to show as many face traits as possible, while keeping the square easy to make. I think I've nailed it this time. So enjoy making this cute ox as a granny square unit for a baby blanket perhaps, plus, you can totally change the colors to make it look like a cow. Stay safe and healthy, and happy (belated) Chinese new year!

Made in three colors of worsted weight yarn, this textured pattern makes a 12” square as written, but once you get the hang of the stitch pattern you can use it for tons of other projects, especially blankets and throws. This would be a great way to use up scraps too - grab your favorite neutral for the main color, then fill in the stripes with your leftovers! Simple stitching, and a terrific introduction to front post stitches.

It took me a long time to settle on the final look of my square, but I am very pleased with it, and I hope you love it, too! Since I am a left handed designer, I have the unique insight that a lot of right handers just don't think of, but I have included visual assistance for both left and right handed crocheters in my pattern.
