Handbag handles can be finicky. You want to make them sturdy to avoid stretching or losing shape. Plus, you want them comfortable to sit on your shoulder or in your hand. This pattern will teach you how to crochet a handle in three different ways: braided handle, tube handle, and Tunisian handle. They're perfect as crochet handbag handles for your bag, tote, purse, and more.
Tricolor Tote
"The Tricolor Tote has so many fun details - changing stitch patterns, fun tassels, braided handles - but its soft color palette and orderly structure bring balance to this fast and fun (and free!) crochet pattern! The Tricolor Tote was designed using Lion Brand Fast-Track, which is a really fun and unique yarn! Soft cotton/poly blend in a tape-like shape, it's like crocheting with your favorite t-shirts. And I love the look it gives projects! This tote is also another pattern on my never-ending search for the ideal bag handles. I've tried many different methods over the years, but I think this is the first time I've tried braids! This yarn lends itself really well to these braided handles, with only a tiny bit of stretch, lots of strength, and some great color play that ends in tassels! If this handle style isn’t to your taste, you can always add pre-purchased handles, or crochet your own using the linked tutorial!"
Paliki Pocket Tote
Paliki means “small” in Hungarian (or so I'm told). And this pocket tote is small, but sturdy - perfect for when you need a bag that won't stretch out, keeping your farmer’s market purchases safe and protected! A great addition to your usual assortment of bags, the Paliki Pocket Tote is the one that's “just right” for all those small special items! Wondering what a “pocket tote” is? It's a tote that folds up into itself, perfect for stashing in your purse or car so you always have it when you need it. This one also features a pretty ribbon woven through the handle. That's not just for looks - the ribbon keeps the handle from stretching out due to the weight of your goodies. And the double layer on the bottom adds even more stability to this handy crochet bag!
Tunisian Crochet Crescent Bag
The Tunisian Crochet Crescent Bag is a unique crochet pattern to work up because it doesn't use a traditional crochet hook. Instead, a Tunisian Afghan Hook is needed to work up this particular crocheted bag, in addition to a regular 6.5 mm crochet hook. This bag is made in three different Tunisian crochet stitches, in the short row technique, for its unique look. After crocheting, the bag is felted, giving it extra strength. Tunisian crochet is a great medium for felting and produces beautiful results. The crocheted tote measures about 17 inches across and 16 inches tall (not including handle).
Market Bag Free Crochet Pattern
This Crochet Market Bag would be great for shopping at the grocery store or farmer’s market, carrying other crochet projects or going to the pool. Basic crochet stiches - single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet stitches are all you need to know to make this Market Bag. The instructions have detailed directions for crocheting the handle. The bag measures approximately 16" x 9” (not including the handles). The handles are short and sturdy. Some shoulder straps really stretch and almost make the bag unusable, so I created this bag to be a ‘handbag’ and not a shoulder bag.
Take Me Everywhere Crochet Tote Bag
This is the "Take me everywhere" crochet tote handbag using lionbrand's ZZ twist yarn using 2 colors from the catalog, taupe and ecru. This crochet tote handbag can be used for many purposes, it can be a regular bag, a crochet work bag, a summer beach bag or even a farmer's market bag. It is flexible and strong at the same time, thanks to the strong base I designed to make this handbag hold still. In the pattern, you can find instructions that explain how to make the strong base bottom. This pattern is perfect for learning how to make a tote bag with flat bottom.
