As one of my first jobs I worked in the activities department of a beautiful nursing facility. I was a young, thought-she-knew-it-all, 20 year old and Mae was a (then) 95 year old darling who always had her hair fixed just right, her favorite pearls around her neck, and you never saw her without her perfectly applied bright cherry lipstick. Oh, the stories Mae could tell! Mae was such a beautiful soul and I will always cherish our chats during activity time. This beautiful Chevron Blanket (available in 3 sizes) is for you, my dear friend."

Hug a Friend Square
Recently, many of my fellow Red Heart Joy Creators got together to make a beautiful afghan for our friend Allison from Red Heart Yarn. Each of us designed a 12" square and then we sent them off to a team member to join them. This lovely afghan was then given to Allison for a fun wedding gift! I love being a part of the Red Heart Yarns Joy Creators. One reason is because we all love to crochet, and this was one of our first group activities. The Hug a Friend Square is a fun and whimsical 12" square made using Chic Sheep Yarn in 3 colors. I hope you enjoy making it too, because this was one of my favorite blocks in my free pattern library.
Diamond Lace Afghan Pattern
I have a sister in law that is expecting her first child! Maybe you remember her from one of my past projects she modeled for me. Hats, shawls and scarves. She's helped me a lot! I wanted to make something special baby blanket for her. When I first saw this stitch I knew it would be perfect! I loved how there were diamonds in the spaces as well as the solid diamonds. A shifting into something else, just like she is'. a Mother. I do plan on having a piece of fleece sewn onto the back of this afghan before I give it as a gift to make it much warmer and leaving no holes for the babies fingers to get stuck in.

Modern Double Crochet V-Stitch Chunky Blanket
This modern double crochet v-stitch chunky blanket is a wedding gift. I have had this Caron One Pound yarn in my stash for a while now. Thought it was time to get something made with it. The blanket had to be large enough to cover a queen sized bed. As you can see from the photo, it is large enough. Not too large though so that one or two people can snuggle under it. Additionally, this had to be warm enough to be the go-to blanket on our cold winter nights. Using two strands of yarn makes this a fun and chunky blanket. It also makes for a very warm blanket. I will miss having this cover me up while crocheting when it is below zero here this week. Brrrr. The double crochet stitch is a quick stitch to master and once the pattern is started, there is really little need to count. For me, this makes for a great crochet pattern to work on while watching movies. I think this is a great beginner stitch once you have mastered the double crochet stitch. It is always easy to see where you need to insert your hook in the previous row.
