How To Crochet A Granny Square

"The granny square is the easiest crochet square out there and should be one of the first things a beginner should learn. It sets the start for more intricate patterns and designs. You can crochet a few rows and stop to form classic granny squares which are joined together, or you can continue with the rounds of clusters to make your granny square as big as you like (and even turn it into a one-piece blanket). How do you crochet a granny square? A granny square is crocheted in the round and it’s constructed with clusters of 3 double crochet stitches evenly spaced out to form a square shape. This granny square tutorial was designed for absolute beginners with step by step instructions and a video tutorial for those who learn better from watching how it’s done. Heart Pixel Art Square

Though a little time consuming, pixel art projects are so fun! I think I like most that it kind of resembles a quilt, but also that it uses my favorite join-as-you method – the Pull Loop Through Method! Makes for an easy join, and no worrying about how to assemble later – can’t say I enjoy sewing squares together. BUT! If you do, you could always make the squares separately, and then use the mattress stitch (or your preferred technique) to join them later. WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH THIS SQUARE? It’s the perfect size for a 16″ throw pillow, use it as an afghan square, and build a blanket, add more squares all around to make a larger blanket, use it as a doily, attach it to a dowel rod, and hang it, use it as the star of the show for a sweater/top, even changing up the weight of yarn used will open doors!Heart Pixel Art Square

Ice Flower Square

Small (5 inch) granny square using a simple technique to gain a raised petal effect. Worked in caron simply soft and 5 mm crochet hook, you can quickly crochet several squares to make a cozy blanket. The raised/puffed petals and leaves give the square a lovely tactile effect and the green colour means that these squares are perfect for spring afghan after all the heavy colours of winter. I gave the square the name ice flower because it reminds me of the brave young flowers shooting up at this time of year.Ice Flower Square
