It's that time of year again when I'm ready to break out the cotton yarn and make myself a dozen different crochet bags. After all, one can never have too many bags, especially tote bags! I consider tote bags to be a summer essential… who am I kidding? I use my crochet tote bags all year round. Why do I historically design new tote bags this time of year? I think it's because I'm being optimistic that, eventually, spring and summer will arrive here in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Maybe it's my way of willing the warmer weather to come, or maybe I just love my growing collection of bags.

This bag is so much fun to make! Great for leftover yarn you don't know what to do with! This pattern uses a simple heart chart and single crochets to make fun and colorful heart squares that are single crocheted together to form the body of the bag. The handles are then added to create this fun happy tote! If you have never worked with charts before, this is a great, easy chart to get started on. This pattern uses a hook size G and 100% cotton yarn, I used Lilys Sugar N’ Cream. This bag can also be made with medium worsted weight yarn. The bag measures 15″ X 15″ with a 8.5″ strap drop. Each heart square is 5″ X 5″.
