Happy Fall Y'all! When I set out to design this pattern, I intended for it to be a throw pillow cover. After making it in single crochet (scroll down for pic) I decided that it was too small and redid it using half double crochet. I think it looks much better. I was also happy to find out that it ended up being the perfect size for a placemat. So, I decided to go with it and I designed a matching coaster. You could still use this pattern as a pillow cover though!

Beginner-Friendly HDC Placemat
Here is an easy, basic crochet placemat that anyone could crochet. Even a beginner would have no trouble making this simple design. All that you need to know how to do is half double crochet in rows, adding a simple single crochet border to polish it off.
However, if you are more knowledgable about crochet and want to add a fancy border, this placemat comes with instructions to add a two-round edging consisting of hdc v-stitches and wide puff stitches.
Mandala Placemat
If you are looking for the perfect wedding gift, housewarming gift or just a nice way to personalize your table, the Mandala Placemat pattern is for you. It is worked in the round, changing color for each round. Materials I used the following materials for this pattern: 3 mm hook Cotton yarn: In total, you will need 2 50g skeins of Schachenmayr Catania Originals per placemat. They have 96 colors for this yarn, you'll definitely find some for your placemats. I used 10 different colors but you can choose as many or as few you want. T-pins for blocking. Size The finished size of one placemat is 37 cm. It has taken me a lot of time and trial and error to decide on the best size. It had to be big enough so you can enjoy it when the table is set but not take too much room on the table so you can still seat people. So 37cm it is. Abbreviations I use UK notations. sl = slip stitch ch = chain dc = double crochet tr = treble crochet dtr = double treble crochet puff = puff stitch.
Granny's Scrappy Placemat
My Granny’s series features one round granny squares. This makes it really great for using up those tiny bits of yarn in your stash. If you don't need a placemat, use it as a larger doily. You'll need 282 yards of worsted weight yarn. As a placemat, I recommend cotton since it's more durable, but as a doily, acrylic works too. I used Lily Sugar n Cream for my placemat. Alternatively, I recommend WeCrochet Dishie (cotton) or Red Heart Super Saver (acrylic). I have included instructions to make a variety of sizes depending on your preference. This placemat took me about 8.25 hours to complete.
