Hi everyone! It's an every year contribution I've been doing, to come up with a granny square that has the face of the current year's Chinese zodiac animal. So far I've made the chicken, the dog, the rat, and now the ox. And I've also enjoyed making other animal granny squares, such as the cat and the frog, and have a few in the making (a rabbit and other animals) that I'm going to post in the future. The only hard part for me when designing these granny squares is to show as many face traits as possible, while keeping the square easy to make. I think I've nailed it this time. So enjoy making this cute ox as a granny square unit for a baby blanket perhaps, plus, you can totally change the colors to make it look like a cow. Made in three colors of worsted weight yarn, this textured pattern makes a 12” square as written, but once you get the hang of the stitch pattern you can use it for tons of other projects, especially blankets and throws. This would be a great way to use up scraps too - grab your favorite neutral for the main color, then fill in the stripes with your leftovers! Candy corn might be a bit polarizing, with some people loving it and some people hating it, but you can't deny the iconic look is pretty well-known. If you want to evoke images of kids excited to dress up, bags of candy, and fake spiderwebs strewn across trees, candy corn is the best way to start.

It took me a long time to settle on the final look of my square, but I am very pleased with it, and I hope you love it, too! Since I am a left handed designer, I have the unique insight that a lot of right handers just don't think of, but I have included visual assistance for both left and right handed crocheters in my pattern.

Who doesn't love sitting under a cozy blanket, cuddled up with your favorite pet or spouse, with a book or a project on their lap, while sipping on something delicious and toasty in their cup? That's my favorite late Fall/ early Winter activity, especially when the weather outside is turning decidedly frightful. Let it snow, rain, or be windy, I'll be inside with my cup of cocoa and a good book.

This is the 2nd square for the Patchwork Mystery Crochet Along. This square is very unique. It is a 12” by 12” corner to corner square with a traditional cable pattern.
