Modern Double Crochet V-Stitch Chunky Blanket
This modern double crochet v-stitch chunky blanket is a wedding gift. I have had this Caron One Pound yarn in my stash for a while now. Thought it was time to get something made with it. The blanket had to be large enough to cover a queen sized bed. As you can see from the photo, it is large enough. Not too large though so that one or two people can snuggle under it. Additionally, this had to be warm enough to be the go-to blanket on our cold winter nights. Using two strands of yarn makes this a fun and chunky blanket. It also makes for a very warm blanket. I will miss having this cover me up while crocheting when it is below zero here this week. Brrrr. The double crochet stitch is a quick stitch to master and once the pattern is started, there is really little need to count. For me, this makes for a great crochet pattern to work on while watching movies. I think this is a great beginner stitch once you have mastered the double crochet stitch. It is always easy to see where you need to insert your hook in the previous row.
Cozy Winter Blanket
Finally, here is a less complicated monochromatic blanket that shows how shades of winter can be simple. However, even though it's simple, it's still beautiful and cozy. Better still, crocheting in the front loop and the back loop is all you need to know to make this wonderful piece.

Suzette's Chunky Afghan
"This crochet pattern is for a chunky, beautifully textured afghan featuring the Suzette stitch pattern, which is comprised of simple single and double crochets. Worked in two strands of worsted weight yarn (or one strand of chunky weight yarn), this cozy afghan works up fairly quickly. For my afghan, I used I Love This Yarn approximately 2.33 skeins of Black, 3 skeins of Red, and 1.5 skeins of White (two strands held together). In it's place, you could use one strand of chunky/bulky (#5) yarn. Take a gauge. If you don't mind a slight difference in measurements, gauge isn't essential. You could even go up a hook size, and use super bulky yarn for a larger blanket. This afghan took me just over 11.5 hours to work up."

Use modern crochet stitches paired with Bernat Baby Velvet yarn to crochet this luxurious throw. Soft and Squishy Afghan The combination of front post double crochet and back post double crochet paired with this silky yarn create a soft and squishy Afghan. When my daughter ran her hands across this blanket, she snuggled her face against the yarn. She said the fluffy and soft blanket was the plushest feeling one yet. We think it is because of the added texture created by the crochet stitches and the fluffy yarn. Pair this bulky yarn with the right stitch and you have a winner. The pattern is a two-row repeat consisting of a row of single crochet, which ads a bit of stability to the entire project. The next row uses a special stitch pattern alternating the front post double crochet and back post double crochet stitches."
